Time to rebuild that VSTAR 1100 carburetor? Don’t need the jets?
K&L Supply / TourMax has a basic rebuild kit to replace the o-rings and float needle valve assembly. K&L, the manufacturer lists the applications as 1999-2006 however parts.wiki has extended the model application years to 1999-2009. This includes all model variations including California and 49 state models; V Star 1100 Classic, Custom, Silverado and Midnight Custom.
Each kit rebuilds one stock carburetor, front (5EL-14902-40-00) or rear (5EL-14901-40-00) unit. Kits include the float bowl gasket, float needle valve, float needle valve seat and o-ring as well as other small o-rings in the carburetor. The kit DOES NOT include a new filter mesh screen. One parts.wiki retail source has informed us they sell hundreds of these kits a year. The high sales volume can be attributed to customers frequently needing to replace the float needle valve due to modern fuel containing ethanol. As with all K&L – TourMax kits, these are quality units made in Japan. K&L # 18-5192, TourMax # KLY-21 is the part number offered. We’ll be documenting the Air Cut-Off Valve, Intake Manifolds, and Fuel Pump Assembly offered by K&L/Tourmax for this model as well, so stay tuned.

Replacing your fuel pump with a new genuine OEM part can be expensive. Failure of external tank fuel pumps is often due to the points. The points can get a lot of dirt and corrosion underneath the protective cap. If you can’t correct the problem with a good cleaning, there is a solution to replace the points contact. K&L Supply / TourMax offers a replacement fuel pump point switch to repair the below models at a fraction of the cost of new. This part will only repair the genuine original (OEM) part and may not be compatible with some of the aftermarket fuel pumps out there. Also keep in mind that the entire pump might need to be replaced and you’ll want to use a process of elimination to determine this.

Often you’ll find people forget to drain their float bowl when parking a bike for long periods of time. With modern fuel that may contain ethanol and other additives, this can lead to some problems when you add time as a factor. More often than not, rubber tipped float needle valves go bad, but so do the plastic floats themselves.
We had this part laying around in the parts.wiki office and thought we would take some photos and do a quick write up. Today, we have the Genuine Kawasaki Float and Pin for the 2002 thru 2017 KLX110 and KLX110L. The float and pin were unchanged for these model years that used as stock the Keihin PB18 carburetor. Only the jetting was different for certain years and countries. This all plastic float assembly does include the 23mm x 2mm pin which is nice.
